The Most Expensive Thanksgiving Ever
A quick check of headlines leads things off today, as we update you on a vaccine decision by the U.S. government and the outcomes of two gubernatorial races. From there, we're explaining why this Thanksgiving could be the most expensive ever in terms of grocery bills. And we're visiting the nation of India to observe a new machine that could lead to improved air quality.
Our book drive is still going strong! One of our library volunteers has been organizing the books in bins in the center section of the book room. If you need books for your classroom, to give to kids, to make reading bags, or absolutely anything, then please check out these books. They are for you to take and use as needed!

Teachers - Friday Afternoon from 3:30-4:30. We will have prizes and refreshments. This is a great opportunity to fill out your wishlist to send out to parents with your eWallet info.
Students - Monday is preview day for students. Slots are for 20 minutes. If you class has library, there is no need to sign up. We'll do preview during your library time.

Book Fair Schedule? Sign up here.
Students may come to the book fair at any time during 10/26-11/1 if they have money. If they come with a bunch of change, please have them count that out before they come to the book fair ;)
You can sign up to bring you class to shop during a time when there isn't already a class in the library. Regular classes will be seen and can go shopping during that time.
I'll have something for the students to do who don't have money for shopping.
Book Fair materials will be in your boxes to send home with students next week.

California students mandated to get COVID vaccine from CNN 10
Our week begins with an explanation of a controversial new law requiring millions of California students to get a Covid vaccine. Worsening energy shortages trigger several problems in China. This Week's Library Classes:
Don’t forget to bring your books to school for library class! Check student emails every Monday for a reminder of what you have checked out.
Destiny has been slow to get classes updated. I've been trying to do that manually, but I'm behind.
As soon as I get classes updated, I'll let you know. They can be accessed from this folder that is organized by grade level.
Student reports go out on Monday mornings. They include everything that a student has checked out.
Homeroom reports go out on Wednesday mornings (beginning 10/6). They only include books that are 3 or more weeks overdue.
Open Check Out Quarter 1
Please only send children when they will have at least 10 minutes to spend in the library. Thanks for your help on this!
M & F -- 7:30-8:00.
T, W, Th -- 7:30-8:15
A huge shoutout to Mrs. Anstrom's class for helping get library helpers started in this time period!
Why Supplies are Bottlenecked from CNN 10
As bottlenecks obstruct the international supply chain of goods, what do industry leaders say must happen to help relieve the situation? As the FCC ramps up its fight against robocalls, we're telling you why they're so hard to prevent. And as Instagram pauses its plans to create a platform for children, we're talking to older teens about the role of social media in their lives.

This Week's Library Classes:
Check out info
Students can have a total of 3 books checked out on their accounts.
Every Monday, they get an email from me reminding them of which books they have checked out. Books may be overdue in Destiny, but I tell them that books are not due until they finish them!
Beginning October 1, teachers will start getting notices for what your students have checked out twice a month (1st & 15th). This is just to help us keep track of them. I'll be printing some paper reminders for those books that are more than a month overdue to be sent home.
Please remind parents of library day!
09/20/2021 Week A
This Week's Library Classes:
Books for your classroom libraries!
Books from the book drive are on the top shelf in the book room. They are alphabetical by author (for the most part), so if you have something in particular that you are looking for, you can locate it if it's there. We have picture books to chapter books for you to choose from.
Please come by and pick some up for your classroom! Take what you want. I just got in 7 more boxes to sort.
Thanks to our CGE families and Chatham Reads for these donations.
